Currently I am working for Mike Parsley at the Columbia River Research Laboratory on movement and habtitat use of sturgeons. My interests are in habitat use and behavior of fishes in relation to refugia and human induced habitat alterations. I have conducted telemetry studies on several species of teleosts and elasmobranchs. In addition to telemetry, I am also interested in age and growth, population dynamics, and mark recapture modelling of fishes.

I currently lead a research team that conducts field and laboratory studies designed to improve our understanding of the biology, ecology, and early life history of sturgeon. I began conducting telemetry studies in the mid 1990’s to gain insight on how sturgeon use riverine habitats. My team and I have conducted several studies that used long-term deployments of acoustic receivers, including positioning systems and stand-alone data loggers. Through application of these technologies, we’ve revealed the diurnal behaviors of white sturgeon, showed that white sturgeon can ascend fishways if they are properly sized, and developed habitat modeling techniques appropriate for fine-scale movement data. I’m keenly interested in the analysis of movement data.
